End/Time
The inspiration for the animation project titled, ‘End/Time’, began while on an Arts residency in Sri Lanka where in the city of Galle, many of the museums had collections of objects which mapped the countries colonial past when it was under the rule of the Portuguese (1505-1658), Dutch (1658-1796) and British (1796-1948).
Whilst going around the various museums in the Galle Fort, Hugh came across a museum, whose collection of objects was from the British colonization period and scattered amongst the collection were hundreds of stopped clocks.
Standing amongst all these stopped clocks instigated an interest in building a playful time piece, where time would appear to be continually running in reverse, as if to get back to the time where the clocks stopped mapping time many years ago.
This process of photographing all the stopped clocks the artist game across continued for several years and in the end became the current Artwork titled, ‘End/Time’.

Hugh Watt is a Northern Irish artist based in Glasgow. Since 1999 Hugh has worked predominantly with film and video. His artistic output is driven by a fascination with the fabric and context of specific sites, exploring concepts where artworks are spun directly from the fabric of the sites where they are eventually shown. All of his work is an ongoing line of enquiry, which pushes the possibilities offered by digital technologies and an interest in the relationship between the film-works and architectural space and how the conditions of display affect the readings of the work
