Ojo Taiye

Woman With Telethon in Her Hair

To teach myself joy,
I had to teach myself belonging,
another verb for play.

Eat, sleep, paint and repeat are
ways I nourish my social biome.
It’s still fun for fun’s sake.

A good sport is for life. Minute
chatters are more nutritious than
we think. Love found me and

all I want for dinner is care.

Ojo Taiye, a young Nigerian artist returns to switch 2022, responding to the theme of PLAY. As someone who believes in the power of language, he is always investigating the imaginative potential of language to capture the minutiae of daily life and the natural world. He is the winner of many prestigious awards including the 2021 Hay Writer’s Circle Poetry Competition, UK, the 2021 Cathalbui Poetry Competition, Ireland and was also selected as a participant in the Poetry Ireland Introduction Series 2020. His poetry muses on power struggles, race and culture, the damage of capitalism, and the tender fragility of hope. He is currently living in Agbor, Nigeria. You can follow him on twitter @ojo_poems.
